Experiencing Learning - Episode 4

Personal Branding For L&D

Whether you are in transition, searching for a new job, or advancing your career, you need to consider personal branding as a skill & tool for your own means of personal development.

The concept of personal branding was introduced to the world in 1997, back when branding was primarily applied to big companies and products on the grocery-store shelf. Thanks to the Fast Company cover story "The Brand Called You" by Tom Peters, the concept of personal branding was born.

Personal branding is simply having ONE unique value proposition to offer.

Mentioning one value doesn't mean having one skill or one attribute, but the focus is on the value that you are offering to your choice of audience.  As personal branding is really about being selectively famous to the audience who care about what you can offer to them.

Nevertheless, the ubiquity of social-media tools has made personal branding even more pervasive, powerful, and efficient. Personal branding has moved from offline & showcasing who you are to everyone around you to online.

With many online platforms out there designed for building community and fosters lively discussion, they became ideal for career-minded professionals who seek to increase their visibility, demonstrate their unique promise of value, and stand out from their peers. And this will be the heart of our discussion!

As we are rewiring ourselves from the covid era, it would be better to talk to someone who will offer to us actual real experience about personal branding.

Not a branding coach, strategist or influencer, but an actual brand in our field of learning & development. A person with pristine presence that has proved herself in the field and whenever her name is mentioned...people race into praising about who she is and what she can offer.

This is how the selection of Nicole happened. As an L&D professional we need someone that knows us and knows our struggle to talk to us about how can we make the most out of our skill sets.

Nicole Papaioannou Lugara, Ph.D. is the Founder of Your Instructional Designer and its learning platform, The Upskill Experience. She has worked with over 50 organizations to improve the impact of workplace learning through performance-driven strategy and design.
